School Counselor
Mrs. LaSonya Colter
Greetings everyone!
My name is LaSonya Colter and I am elated to be a part of the VPE family! It is an honor for me to serve as the Professional School Counselor at Vance-Providence Elementary as it enables me to build a culture that nurtures and fosters positive relationships so that high levels of learning are achieved and supports all students, their families, the community, and the staff. As an Elementary School Counselor, I offer the tools and strategies to help navigate life’s challenges with resilience and grace. I plan to continue building relationships with everyone, motivating our students, and supporting their social and emotional well-being.
My educational experience includes earning a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the illustrious Claflin University and a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from South Carolina State University. It is a joy to work, learn, and grow in the field of School Counseling and I am excited to serve the students in this capacity every day.
Once a month I conduct guidance lessons on academic success, career/college readiness, character development, and social/emotional development. Children can also be seen by me through a referral-based system made by the student, parent, teacher, and/or administrators. I will meet with students individually or in a small group setting to provide support in all areas of their lives. I will also consult with parents, school personnel, and/or outside agencies to assist in providing all students with a safe, kind, and inclusive environment.
It is important that I build a strong home-school connection with the families I serve so if you ever have a question, need support, or your family is experiencing difficulties or change please feel free to email or give me call me at the school. We all must work together to ensure the success of our students.
I look forward to an amazing year and guiding your children on their journey of academic and social/emotional excellence!
